About Groote Eylandt
Groote Eylandt is the traditional home of the Anindilyakwa people, one of the most linguistically distinct Aboriginal language groups in Australia. The island has strong cultural governance through the Anindilyakwa Land Council. The main community of Angurugu sits alongside the GEMCO manganese mine.
Travel & Access
Accessible by light aircraft or regular flights from Darwin (approx. 1.5 hours). The Anindilyakwa Land Council manages entry permits for the island.
